I would agree with Bruce, too much oil might have build up too much pressure in the engine spaces and it would then seek the quickest exit, which may in fact be the faulty gasket etc. Also, when they tightened down the head, did they torque it properly ? As the studs are through both cylinder and head, tightening will affect both and if not done properly it could've "wasted" the base gasket enough to break the seal. Or maybe not !
